Pyrosequencing technology is the sequencing technology behind the Whole Genome Sequencing platform from 454 Life Sciences. Biotage and 454 Corporation have signed a license agreement that gives 454 Corporation exclusive rights to use Pyrosequencing (sequencing by synthesis and pyrophosphate based sequencing) for whole genome and other high density and high throughput applications. The license gives 454 Corporation the exclusive rights to use Pyrosequencing technology for all applications on platforms performing over 1,536 reactions.

To date, 454 Life Sciences has created a massively parallel sequencing system that can routinely sequence 10 Mbp genomes. Planned applications include de novo sequencing of microorganisms, model organisms and human genomes, and genome methylation mapping.
