MI is an antimicrobial preservative used in a variety of personal care products. There is a risk, however, of contact dermatitis in humans when exposed to this compound at sufficient concentration levels. This application note describes an extraction method of MI from sun lotion prior to GC/MS analysis with a recovery of MI at 99.6% and an RSD of only 9.5%. The method was developed using an ISOLUTE® SLE+ 1 mL sample volume column.
